MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim registered a narrow 2-1 victory over Ambelim Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of 3rd Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup soccer tournament organized by St Sebastian Union Benaulim at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, here, Tuesday.
Davorlim made a solid start and within the half hour mark raced to a two-goal lead. They surged ahead in the 12th minute when striker Rosefern Miranda received a through ball from medio Anthony Furtado on the edge of the box and struck a low right-footer which gave no chance to Ambelim goalkeeper Benny Silva.

The Davorlim lads had a strangle hold over the proceedings and increased their lead in the 29th minute through winger Agnelo Gomes who took advantage of a misunderstanding between the rival defenders to find the net from close.
After the change of ends, Ambelim were a much improved side with their defenders marking the Davorlim strikers closely.
Ambelim constantly attacked the rival citadel and reduced the margin through the boots of Samson Fernandes when his right footer from top of the box crashed into the nylons beating Davorlim goalkeeper Sachin Ashtekar hands down. With time running out, Ambelim almost got the equalizer but Ashtekar made a superb diving save to deny Jade Colaco.
