MARGAO: The threat call for a blockade by the Karnataka registered trucks transporting coal to Goa Carbon Ltd at Sao Jose de Areal failed to take off on Monday as no trucks from Karnataka arrived at the factory which led to the protestors to submit a memorandum to the factory manager.
The protestors prepared a handwritten memorandum at the last minute addressed to Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, three MLAs namely Luizinho Faleiro, Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Churchill Alemao, South Goa Collector, Maina Curtorim Police Inspector and Sarpanchas of Rumdamol, Sao Jose de Areal, Davorlim and Aquem Baixo. Incidentally while the memorandum was typed on a letter head of Margao Salcete Truck Transport Association, it had a rubber stamp affixed of Margao Salcete Truck Association and besides while Rumdamol Davorlim is one panchayat, the memorandum was addressed to two sarpanchas of Davorlim and Rumdamol.
The memorandum listed out the woes of the Goa truck owners as Karnataka registered trucks, which are capable of carrying more load, are used to transport coal from MPT to the factory. They pointed out that while Goan trucks can carry up to 10 tonnes, the Karnataka registered trucks carry up to 4 tonnes.
The memorandum demanded that Karnataka registered trucks not be allowed to transport material in Goa and they did not have any objection if those trucks were used to transport material outside Goa.
