Set up food processing council: Experts

The two-day conference on "Emerging trends in Food processing" organized by the Center for Innovation and Business Acceleration Agnel Technical Education Centre, Verna got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Thursday, with experts calling for the setting up of the Goa state Food Processing Development Council to give the right impetus for the food processing industry in the state.

MARGAO: The two-day conference on “Emerging trends in Food processing” organized by the Center for Innovation and Business Acceleration Agnel Technical Education Centre, Verna got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Thursday, with experts calling for the setting up of the Goa state Food Processing Development Council to give the right impetus for the food processing industry in the state.

After inaugurating the conference, Goa State Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Levinson Martins urged the participants to make good use of the deliberations. He complimented the Centre for Innovation and Business Acceleration for holding the conference.

Food consultant, R Krishnan said the integration of different stages of food chain would brighten the food process scenario in Goa. He said that food processing has good prospects for Goa if there’s an integration of cold storages, value additions in the products.

Krishnan said that one has to bear in mind that Goa’s floating population is around 14 lakhs, which is on par with the state’s population and underlined the need to promote tourism related food market. “The Goa State Task Force has to prepare the road map to make Goa the destination for food processing industry. The formation of the Council will give the right direction to implement the road map”, he added.
