Barcelona and Juventus have arguably been
the two most in-form teams throughout the
2014-15 campaign, and it’s only fitting that the
two football giants will face off in the UEFA
Champions League final tonight in Berlin.
Barcelona has won the tournament three times
in the last decade, most
recently in 2011. Marjorie
Pereira from Colva, a
die-hard Barcelona fan,
says, “I support Barcelona
because of their magical
football as a team. The short
passing game, stunning
interplay, individual flair
and goals galore have
always mesmerised me! The
Champions League final
between Barcelona and Juventus is not just a
clash between the league champions of Spain
and Italy, it is also a battle between two very
different footballing styles. What I am looking
forward to is Leo Messi’s magic on field, Xavi’s
final game for his club and of course, the
dangerous strikeforce – Messi Neymar Suarez!”
Krystle Mascarenhas, a Juventus fan from
Margao, fights back, saying, “Juve’s story is what
makes this club so special. The 2006 champions
of Italy and one of the best clubs in Europe were
relegated in disgrace after a match fixing scandal.
Also, it’s been a while since an Italian team has
reached the Champions League final. Another key
hallmark is their stoutness on defence and they
did show that against Real Madrid. I’ve been a
Real Madrid supporter but today I switch sides.
I’m definitely going to be watching the match
at Acacia Palms, Colva along with The Football
Dugout (TFDO) family.”
While the fans of Juventus and Barcelona
are leaving no stone unturned to point out the
positives of their team and
explain why their team
is the strongest, Conrad
Barretto, the admin of TFDO
seems to hold a neutral
stand. Conrad says, “I’ll
be watching this one as
a neutral fan. I’ve always
been a strong supporter of
Italian defending. This Juve
team reminds me of Arrigo
Saachi’s Milan. But Barca’s
front 3 have been relentless this season. I’ve
never seen a better front 3 than this. I will be
watching the game at Acacia Palms in Colva with
most of the Barca fans in Goa, plus the members
of TFDO. I will have my eyes on Suarez during
this one due to the Liverpool connection. It’s
going to be a cracker!”
