The Varunapuri junction on the new Varunapuri –MPT Highway has emerged as a new hotspot for accidents. This is the fourth accident in a row over the past month. On Sunday night, a defence employee Arvid Paswan was killed in a fatal accident at Varunapuri junction, Vasco. The deceased was riding a bike when he was knocked down by a speeding truck.
Locals gathered at the Varunapuri –MPT Highway junction site and threatened to stop transportation till speed breakers were installed on the highway. They complained that the heavy vehicles ply at great speed, regardless of smaller vehicles and two-wheelers. There is no policeman at the junction to check for drunken driving. The highway authorities nor traffic police have bothered to take any preventive measures.
