Arpora Sporting Club emerged champions of All-Goa inter-village football tournament of Xetrapal by defeating Calangute Association 2-1 in the finals at Oxel ground, Siolim on Sunday. Arpora scored both the goals in the first half.
Striker Pramod Mardolkar opened the account for Arpora in the 10th minute through a neat pass from midfielder Rajesh Pomburpekar. Pramod completed his brace in the 23rd minute off a direct 30-yard scorching shot making it 2-0 for Arpora.
At the change of ends, down by two goals, Calangute went into attack mode compelling Arpora to retaliate.
It was only in the 43rd minute, Calangute could reduce the margin, when their striker Sherwin Lobo was tackled by Arpora defender Sudesh Naik inside the box. Resultant penalty was converted by Augustine Rodrigues 1-2.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dayanand Mandrekar MLA who gave away the prizes.
Arpora Sporting received Rs 10,000, while Calangute walked away with Rs 7000.
