MARGAO, APRIL 6
Sarpanch of Seraulim Leopoldina Fernandes on Monday afternoon complained to the Colva police alleging that she and other panchayat members were abused during a site inspection.
The incident occurred around when the Panchayat body carried out an inspection of alleged land filling of the paddy fields.
The inspection was fixed after the Panchayat received a complaint that illegal filling of land and erection of hut of palm leaves and wooden poles was going on in the area.
When the inspection team reached the site, a person came on the scene and started recording the inspection.
The Sarpanch in her complaint later stated that the man used abusive language and warned the member of dire consequences.
The man, however, refuted the charges and challenged the Sarpanch to prove that the field belonged to him.
He told newsmen at the police station that he was being implicated in the case when the land in question does not belong to him. Colva police later arrested the accused under Section 151 of the Cr P C under preventive detention and later released on bail.
Panchayat Secretary Custodio Faria told newsmen that the accused used abusive words and threatened them of dire consequences.
