PANJIM: Mandopa Sporting Club fought back from a goal down to defeat St Rock’s Youth Club, Calata, Majorda 7-6 via the tie-breaker to win the 7th all-Goa inter-village football tournament, organized by Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, Quepem, at Panchayat ground, Avedem-Quepem. The winner bagged Rs 40,000 while the runner-up settled for Rs 30,000.
The match turned out to be an exciting affair as the teams dished out exciting football.
Remedious Barretto gave the lead to St Rock’s YC in the seventh minute but it was cancelled out by Rovell Gomes of Mandopa in the first half.
Post resumption, the team went head-to-head but failed to score the match-winner.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Chrisley Costa, Sandy Colaco, Jaison Pereira, Alvito Colaco, Rovell Gomes and Mobin Gomes scored for Mandopa while Ignatius D’Souza, Nelton Miranda, Remedious Barretto, Lloyd Dias and Naveen Mendes were on target for Majorda.
The following individual prizes were awarded to First scorer of the final Remedious Barretto of Majorda, Best forward Alvito Colaco of Mandopa, Best goalkeeper Ignatius D’Souza of Majorda, Best midfielder Remedious Barretto and Best emerging goalkeeper Maurice Pereira of Mandopa.
The MLA of Quepem constituency, Babu Kavlekar was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. The parish priest of Paroda church, Fr. Domingos Norhona was the guest of honour.
The deputy sarpanch of Avedem-Cotombi-Chaify panchayat, Krishna Gauns Desai and ex- sarpanch, Alleluia Alphonso were also present.
Earlier, the President of Fr Agnelo Youth SC, Nevil Alphonso welcomed.
Franky Fernandes compered. Chairman of the organizing committee Seby Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
