PANJIM: Beevan D’Mello struck once again as Vasco Sports Club registered a solitary goal win over Salgaocar Football Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
The former Dempo star, scored the lone goal of the game in the 12th minute, scoring his third goal of the campaign ever since joining Vasco Sports Club.
Vasco started with attacking football and dominated the first 10 minutes of the game and deservingly took the lead in the 12th minute. Sanwil D’Costa sent in a cross, Alvito Dias flicked the ball to Beevan D’Mello, who was left unmarked in the area and his shot hit the side post and went in the goal.
Vasco had another opportunity in the 29th minute when Chirag made a darting run and tried to find Beevan with a low cross, however, their defender Saurav Patil cleared the danger.
Salgaocar got an opportunity in the 39th minute when a long clearance reached to Daryl Costa, who saw Vasco’s keeper Luis Barreto out of position and tried a lob shot from a distance which hit the crossbar and went out for a goalkick.
From this point, Salgaocar tried to pressurise their opponents and got the opportunity in the 41st minute when Kuldeep brought down Samuel Costa in the box, where he was cautioned and the referee awarded a penalty. Chaitan Komarpant took the penalty which was saved by Luis Barreto. Barreto now has perfect 100 percent record from the spot saving all three penalties he faced this season.
Earlier referee Tejas Nagvenkar got injured after clashing with a Vasco SC player. Fourth official Shivram T replaced him and ensured the match continued smoothly.
In the second half, Salgaocar started attacking from the start in search of equaliser and won couple of free kicks in the danger zone, but most of the time Vasco’s defence led by Kuldeep cleared the danger. On few occasions Salgaocar FC strike force failed to keep their composure and shot wide.
At the hour mark, Vasco got an opportunity when Cavin Lobo tried to set up Beevan with a through pass but the keeper came out to safely collect it.
Vasco’s Cavin dribbled past couple of defenders and however delayed in taking his shot which was eventually cleared to safety by Salgaocar defence. At the other end, Ribhav Sardessai tried his luck from outside the box but Barreto calmly collected the shot.
