The much awaited big budget Konkani film
‘Enemy?’, produced by A Durga Prasad, is all set for release this Christmas.
“The reason why we want to release it during the festive season is because the
story is set during Christmastime, between December 23 to January 7,” shares
Dinesh Bhosle, the director of the film. This is Dinesh’s third feature film
after the Marathi film ‘Marmabandh’ which won the Zee Gaurav Award, and the
Hindi film ‘Calapor’.
Revealing more about the storyline of the
film, Meenacshi Martins, the film’s lead actor, says, “In the midst of the
festive season, a Goan Catholic family discovers that they have lost their
property to the government and their family honour is at stake. This is a
battle fought by mother and son. I play the role of a single mother whose son
is a soldier.”

She further reveals, “In Goa, there are
landlords (bhatkars) who owns big houses. In this film, ours is a bhatkar
family whose house gets confiscated by the government under some prevailing
law, as my character, a single mother, had her hands full raising her son and
was unable to keep track of the various legalities that needed to be followed.
It is their battle to take back what is rightfully theirs that forms the basis
of the film. The film has a message for Goans in such circumstances on how to
deal with such situations.”
Filming took almost a year, with it being
partly shot in Delhi as well as Goa. “We have taken utmost care while shooting
the scenes so that it reflects our true Goa. The house we used in the film is
located in Agacaim. The costumes were designed to reflect the way Goans dress.
Also, the church and Christmas scenes was shot in three different places
between Agacaim, Pilar and Old Goa,” states Meenacshi.
Dinesh is pleased that the team didn’t have
to face much difficulty while filming. He explains, “Only in one instance did I
have to make deliberate changes. We wanted a Goan mob to be gathered for a few
scenes and I wanted the body language of the lot to resemble Goans so I had to
cancel and postpone shoot until we managed the Goan mob.”
Along with Meeneacshi Martins, the film
also stars Salil Naik, Antonio Crasto, Samiksha Desai and Raju Hede, among
others. Music director Schubert Cotta has composed the tracks for the film
which have been sung by Myron Mascarenhas with Mecxy Cotta and Jesus Gomes. The
lyrics are by Fr Ubald Fernandes, Fr Vasco Rego SJ, Schubert Cotta and Roque
Lazarus.
The film will release in Goa first and then
in other parts of country. “Since the issue highlighted in the film is
applicable to any state or country, we’ve decided to screen it in Mumbai, Pune,
Mangalore and Kolkata. This film will also visit various film festivals,”
concludes Dinesh.
