PONDA: Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has stated that Goa is far ahead in health care parameters as compared to other smaller states in the country.
Parsekar was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ghar-Ponda and IMA Hospice, palliative care centre for the terminally ill at Farmagudi-Ponda. Parsekar assured government’s support to the IMA-Ponda in this venture.
Outgoing IMA-Goa president Dr Harivallabh Pai said there is a need for a preventive violence bill and clinical establishment bill and hoped that the State government will pass both the bills as soon as possible.
“Prevention of violence bill is need of the hour and 13 states in the country have already passed this bill. Once the bill is passed, attacks on medical practitioners and hospitals will be treated as cognizable and non-bailable offence,” informed Dr Pai.
“IMA Goa had requested the State government for a separate clinical establishment bill for Goa and we have been following it up with the State government since the last two years,” added Dr Pai.
When asked, Parsekar said: “Both the bills are under consideration and will see what can be done.”
IMA-Goa President Dr Gladstone D’Costa also spoke on the occasion.
Priol MLA and Minister for Cooperation Deepak Dhavlikar, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, Ponda IMA outgoing president Dr Rajiv Usgaonkar, Ponda IMA president Dr Lalana Bhakle and IMA members were present at the function.
