PANJIM: Former Governor of the then State of Jammu & Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik, will on Sunday be sworn in as Governor of Goa. The 73-year-old succeeds Goa’s first woman Governor Mridula Sinha, who retired from the post on Friday. He will be administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay, Pradeep Nandrajog, on Sunday at 4.30pm.
The Governor designate arrived in Goa on Saturday and was welcomed by Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat among others.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met Malik at Raj Bhavan, Dona and posted a tweet stating, “Extended a warm welcome to the Governor-designate Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan, Goa. Congratulated him and conveyed my best wishes for a successful tenure.”
Before leaving for Goa, Malik, while speaking to a national news channel had said that he would “take rest” as Goa Governor after hectic work in J&K. “I have worked hard, now I will take rest. I will read and write (in Goa)… Goa has a young CM… Will ensure there is no problem created either for me or for the State,” he was quoted as saying.
