MARGAO: Businessman and social worker Jerome Fernandes on Wednesday gave a call to Goans settled abroad to return to their state.
Mendes, who is the owner of Leonoras hotel at Verna, gave the call at a function held at hotel Leonoras, Verna on the occasion of his 75th birthday. The birthday celebration was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Environment Minister Alina Saldanha, GPCC chief Luizinho Faleiro, other political leaders, priests, and guests from all walks of life.
“On this occasion, I request all of you to tell our Goans settled abroad to return home. India is my country but Goa is my mother. All of you Goans who are settled abroad, please come back home,” he appealed.
In his address, Fr Diego Fernandes described Jerome as a man with a vision. “Jerome is indeed a visionary. He has done many things not only in London, but in Goa as well. He has done a lot of things for Goa and has a vision for the state,” Fr Fernandes said.
On the occasion, Fr Antonio da Costa said everyone in Goa know the achievements of Leonoras during the last 75 years, while wishing him all the best in all his future endeavours.
