Couple booked for defrauding man of lakhs over fake overseas job offer

MARGAO: Margao Police have registered an offence against Bala Nandeshwar Rao and Shanti Bala Rao, a husband-and-wife duo, for allegedly cheating a Curtorim resident by promising him a job abroad and defrauding him of Rs 8.5 lakh.

According to the complaint, an offence under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered. Arbaz Khan, a resident of Oilem Moll Don Khuris, Maina Curtorim, Salcete, alleged that between September 2023 and April 2024, the accused, operating under the banner of Dream for Overseas Consulting Private Limited located near Vishal Mart, Aquem, Margao, dishonestly induced him to pay Rs 8.5 lakh under the pretext of securing a job in the United States.

The amount was allegedly accepted fraudulently on different occasions via bank transfers. Police have registered the offence, and investigations are underway, though no arrests have been made so far. Sources within the police revealed that the accused may have fled.

The investigation is being conducted by PSI Nilesh Shirvoikar.
