Goa is witnessing a wave of interesting films made within
the state and the next film that is all set to woo the public is Konkani film,
‘MMS’ which will hit theatres April 10. The film is directed by Joywin
Fernandes and produced by Jerryton Dias of Diason Ventures.
While the acting talent forms a crucial part of a film, the
people behind the scenes constitute the lifeline of the project. Atmaram Sawant
from Taleigao, editor of the film, is a graduate from Goa College of Art and
was working in Mumbai before heading back to Goa. “I was introduced to Joywin
through Kevin D’Mello, the lead actor of the film. I worked with Kevin on a
college project and since then, we have been friends,” says Atmaram, who works
from his studio in St Inez. He has been an assistant director for ad films,
serials and films like ‘Chal Picture Banate Hai’ in Mumbai. He further adds,” I
worked on the editing of the film for four months and it was a great experience
since the film has many effects. I was comfortable with the team because it
comprised all Goan members. Usually when films are shot in Goa, they either
outsource technicians or bring in people from Mumbai. This film supported an
all-Goan crew, which is impressive. I hope people love the film as we have
worked very hard.”

Any film is incomplete without music and Agostinho da Cruz
has been turning heads in the Goan music industry for quite some time. Having
released nine audio CDs and three Video CDs, Agostinho composed, arranged and
orchestrated what was required for this film. “Joywin wanted a live orchestra
with violin and mandolin for the music. I worked according to the scenes and
situations in the film, delivering music that consists of five songs, mostly
love songs,” says Agostinho, who has won the Goa State Film Best Music Director
Award twice for ‘Kanteantulem Ful’ and ‘Zababdari’.
Another important aspect of the film making process is sound
effects. Velroy Fernandes was responsible for the dubbing, sound effects and
mixing, including the three-minute trailer which has been uploaded online. “I
asked the editor to give me the final cut of the film as I didn’t want to end
up reworking on it due to changes in scenes,” explains Velroy, who also sang
the ‘College Campus Song’ for the film. Being the first one to watch the film
before its release, Velroy was all praises for the film. “I loved working on
the film because it had SFX sound effects for action scenes. The film is a
smart cut with different characters. The beauty of the film is that the mystery
lasts till the very last moment. It is a great suspense thriller for Goa.”
Frazer Pacheco was in charge of the background score for the
film which was completed within a week. “It didn’t take long because the shots
were ready and vocals and dialogues were also completed. This was my first
major project as I am more into music arrangements and remixes,” says Frazer
who remixed the famous Konkani song ‘Mira Mira’ sung by Orville. “I am eagerly
awaiting the film’s release as it has a good message for Goans,” says Frazer
who is inspired by music composers like A R Rahman and Raju Singh. Frazer
earlier worked on ‘Adeus Moga’ with Roque Lazarus.
The film will premiere on April 10, 2015 at Inox, Panjim and
Margao, with a special screening for the crew members onboard Golden Princess
where Jerryton is currently working.
