PANJIM: Sesa Football Academy scored two goals in each half to register a 4-2 win over Churchill Brothers SC in the GFA U-16 First Division League held at Sesa Football Academy, Sanquelim ground, on Sunday.
Ranjit Tete made good runs in the opening minutes for Sesa FA on the right-wing and looked dangerous. Ranjit caught the defence napping in the 5th minute after he was onside against the keeper but couldn’t convert from a difficult angle.
SFA boys conceded two quick corners in the 17th and 18th minutes and failed to defend both of them. CBSC took a two-goal advantage as Rahul scored the first goal on a half volley at the edge of the box from a corner, while the second goal came from close range after SFA keeper spilled the ball right into the feet of Richard who was lurking in the box.
With SFA two goals down inside 19 minutes, coach Joao Rebello decided to make a substitution in the midfield and brought on Md. Izaz Khan in the 30th minute replacing Zefferino. The substitution made an immediate impact as SFA took control of the ball in the midfield. SFA forward Ranjit Tete made a darting run forward in the opposition box as a through ball from Izaz allowed him to skip past keeper and place it in the back of the net in the 33rd minute.
SFA struck again as Crespo made a run on the right wing and decided to cut inside to take a shot himself with his right foot. His shot was saved by the keeper but was picked easily by SFA striker Ranjit on the rebound. Both teams went in at the break with the score level at 2-2.
SFA continued their onslaught in the second half as Crespo looked dangerous in the opening minutes. He scored in the 51st minute after SFA took a quick free-kick to feed the winger. Crespo dribbled past the keeper to place it perfectly in the bottom left corner of the net. SFA sealed the victory in the 83rd minute after a pinpoint cross from Ronit met the feet of substitute striker Ashish who placed it in the back of the net. SFA U-16 won the game 4-2 at the end of 90 minutes.
In another match at Astro Turf ground, Fatorda, FC Goa defeated SAI Training Centre 3-0. Bryson Pereira, Climax Fernandes and Wesley D’Sa scored a goal each for the winners.
At Ella ground, Dempo Sports Club Juniors beat Salgaocar FC 3-2. Shameek Vas scored a double while Clarence Fernandes scored another for the Young Eagles. Beckham Dias and Jordan Borges scored for the losing side.
GFDC congratulate its trainees
Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) congratulates their trainees juggling for Dempo SC for an outstanding performance in the U-16 First Division League.
GFDC is delighted to see the growth of their players namely Aniket Kerkar, Anish Gadar, Arnold Oliveira, Pushkar Prabhu, Utkarsh Khorjuvenkar and Mackenzie Fernandes.
“I am extremely happy with the performance of our boys who are playing for Dempo SC, the winners of the GFA’s U-16 tournament. We are pleased with their outstanding performance through their journey with GFDC and are confident that they will triumph,” said GFDC Member Secretary Alexio Costa.
