PANJIM: Following Fr Agnel’s Youth Centre Pilar’s 2-2 draw against Piedade Youth Association Divar in the GFA U-14 League Ilhas Zone, Compassion FC were crowned champions of the league.
The draw helped the Pilar boys garner 11 points to their credit to qualify for the Playoff matches with the Compassion FC with 13 points from their four wins, one draw and one loss.
The Compassion FC team is a collection of underprivileged and marginalised Boys from various parts of Goa and are playing for the second year in the GFA U-14 league.
The Pilar boys conceded a self goal in the early minutes of the match and soon the PYA team from Divar made it 2-0 through Tejas their regular scorer.
But it was Aden Dsouza who scored a brace for Fr Agnel’s, Pilar to draw level before halftime. In the second half the Pilar boys missed a penalty or could have got three full points but finally had to be content with the draw and yet qualify from the Ilhas Zone for the playoff matches.
At the Agassaim ground, FC Aditya scored a fluent 5-1 victory over Don Bosco Oratory Sports Cultural and Youth Club Panjim.
Callum Fernandes scored four of the five goals for FC Aditya while Shreyash Palmar scored the last goal of the match before Rohan Fernandes netted the only consolation goal for Don Bosco Boys.
But even after winning the match with a huge score line the FC Aditya only could finish third in the pool of seven teams behind Compassion FC and Fr. Agnel’s, Pilar.
In Mormugao zone, Benfica Youth Club and CAC Social Club played out a goalless draw at Velsao ground, on Sunday.
In another match at Velsao ground, A A de Majorda defeated Young Humorists Club 2-0.
Brandon Fernandes and Edwin Andrade scored a goal each for the winning team.
