CALANGUTE: After customers from Calangute had to go without telephone and internet services during Christmas and New Year, it was now the turn of many customers from Nagoa and Parra to face the brunt of reckless digging on account of ongoing developmental works in the area.
Though the disrupted telephone lines were repaired in Nagoa, communications services were still down in Parra as BSNL officials were struggling to trace the cable damaged by the bulldozers.
According to sources, contractors entrusted with road widening work were in the process of cutting the road with the help of a bulldozer, when the heavy machinery accidentally damaged the telephone cables.
Angry BSNL officials blamed the contractors for not taking them into confidence while digging or cutting the roads where the telephone cables were located.
“When the telephone cables are cut or damaged, we are called to repair them urgently. We have been asking them to take care of the cables, etc, however, the contractors are only concerned about their work,” complained a BSNL officer at the site.
“The subscribers blame us though these contractors are solely responsible for the disruption in telecom services. If the road was dug or cut in a systematic manner, there would have been no such breakdown in telephone services,” the BSNL official added.
