MARGAO: A late-night fire on Wednesday at Chicalim, near the Church property, was eventually doused by the locals and then the fire brigade.

“There was a midnight fire at Chicalim. We managed to douse the fire that was spreading fast down the Chicalim slopes towards Bhaiyya Colony near the Church property,” said the Chicalim parish priest.
He added that Captain Viriato Fernandes, former Chicalim Sarpanch Seby Pereira, panch member Roman Vaz, Chicalim’s Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Chairman Rui Costa Araujo and a resident of Bhaiyya colony responded to the timely SOS issued by the community.
“Vasco Fire services too responded and arrived at the spot. Although the fire was brought under control by the local team, the fire brigade completed the task by spraying water,” the priest added.
