PANJIM: In a major success to Goa Police, a wanted criminal — who has been into hiding after committing heinous crimes — was arrested in a late Saturday night operation. A close coordination between North Goa District Police and Navi Mumbai Crime Branch led to the arrest of Vikrant Deshmukh alias Vicky from Panjim while he was in possession of a loaded firearm.

Addressing a press conference at Panjim Police Station on Sunday, Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Shobhit Saksena revealed that Vicky is involved in over 30 serious cases registered at various police stations of Maharashtra. He was presently wanted by Nerul Police Station in Mumbai for murder and the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA).
“Vicky is a notorious, habitual criminal, who was wanted for last four years. We had received specific inputs from Navi Mumbai police and worked on those leads to trace and arrest the criminal. A joint team of Panjim and Navi Mumbai Police laid several traps and eventually chased the dreaded criminal. There was every possibility that Vicky might carry a deadly weapon with him,” the SP said.
He attempted to escape but after a chase, the police caught hold of the Mumbai accused and recovered from him one country made pistol having five live rounds/cartridges, mobile phones and Toyota Fortuner car.
The criminal had arrived in Goa on a leisure trip just a day before his arrest on Saturday night, along with his associate. SP Saksena said they are looking for the accused’s accomplice even as Navi Mumbai Police team is carrying out the formalities to take his custody from Panjim Police.
A criminal case under Section 3 read with 25 of the Arms Act 1959 has been registered against him at Panjim Police Station.
