PANJIM: The Goa Football Association formed a committee to organise the Junior National Football Tournament for Girls which will be headed by the President Elvis Gomes at a specially convened Executive Committee Meeting, on Saturday.
In all 25 teams from various States of India will be vying for the Championship, which will be held from August 20 to 31at Duler Stadium, Mapusa and Artificial Turf, Fatorda.
The Goa squad is undergoing intensive coaching under the watchful eyes of head coach Remy Colaco assisted by Savio Vaz.
“The last National Championship organised by us was the successful conduct of the Santosh Trophy in 2017 where we were the runners-up.This time with the Women’s League behind us, we have spotted some good players and hope that they will make it to the final with the support of the home crowd,” said Elvis Gomes.
The other members of the committee are Schubert Furtado and Lavinio Rebello (Organizing Vice-Chairmans), Welvin Menezes (Organizing Secretary).
The others on the committee are Angelo Albuquerque, Sanjiv Nagvenkar, Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, Benedicto Themudo, Prakash Naik, Dominic Pereira, Gaja Kerkar, Patrick D’Souza, Raju Banavalikar, Santosh Bandodkar, Francis Viegas, Jaju Fernandes, Anthony Pango, Arnaldo Costa, John Silva, Francis D’Souza, and Anthony Leo Fernandes.
Meanwhile, the Executive Committee decided to have a ceremony to launch the Women’s League on August 9, in Panjim.
The league will commence from August 14.
The Charity match between Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club which is a precursor to the Goa Professional League will be held on September 2, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa under floodlights.
The Goa Professional League is scheduled to commence from September 17.
The Committee also decided to publicly display the Bandodkar Gold Trophy at the Charity Match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
Setting the process of elections in motion, the GFA on Saturday has sought consent of the Returning Officer who shall be entrusted with the conduct of the General Elections to the Executive Committee under the amended Constitution of the GFA.
