VALPOI: Parts of Sattari taluka continue to remain without power supply and road connectivity three days after the storm hit the taluka.
The Valpoi Fire Services has now estimated that the property either destroyed or damaged by Friday’s storm has exceeded Rs 1 crore.
While efforts by the Electricity department are in progress on a “war-footing” to restore power in the affected areas, power supply to some of the affected areas may be restored only by Tuesday, stated the Electricity department.
The Valpoi Fire Services has so far cleared 329 uprooted trees and continues to clear trees uprooted along some interior roads in the taluka.
“While the 11 KV line as well as LT in the Bicholim area has been completely restored , the Keri main road LT line of about 40 poles will be restored by Tuesday,” a spokesperson of the Electricity department said on Monday evening.
“Restoration of power lines in Valpoi and Thane is 98 per cent complete. The 11 KV water supply line at Keri is also restored completely,” the press note added.
“Power supply, which snapped due to gusty winds that sent trees crashing and causing heavy damage in the hinterland, is being restored by the Electricity department on a war footing.”
Meanwhile, the Valpoi Fire Services have cleared all the uprooted trees that had fallen on around 75 houses in Poriem, Keri, Morle, Nagargao and Thane.
“We have, so far, cut and cleared 329 uprooted trees. The operations began shortly after the storm struck the taluka on April 4 and ended today at 7 pm,” Valpoi Fire station in-charge Laxman Majeek told Herald.
“However, we are still receiving calls of uprooted trees and on Monday, we received seven such calls from Shelpi, Satre, Keri and Thane. Some trees have gone weak after the storm and could uproot,” Majeek added.
Asked to estimate the property destroyed or damaged by Friday’s storm, Majeek said, “The estimated loss of property in Sattari taluka alone is above Rs 1 crore. However, the fire services managed to save property worth crores from further destruction.”
Majeek added that some trees which were fallen along the internal roads in Keri would be removed by Tuesday.
“The fire service personnel are working round the clock. We also helped the Electricity department workers in clearing and cutting trees that had fallen on electricity wires and poles. We managed to save electricity poles and wires from further damage,” Majeek added.
