VARCA: Vasco Veterans fought back from a goal down to win 5-4 on penalties against a star-studded Shannon Veterans to clinch the 3rd All Goa Late Clement Memorial Veterans Football Tournament, on Tuesday.
After a barren first half, it was former international and Salgaocar player Roberto Fernandes who gave Shannon Veterans the lead after receiving a pass from Pascoal.
However, Vasco Veterans didn’t give up and it was their hard-working midfielder Vishant Pednekar – later recipient of the best player and best goal awards – found the equaliser with just three minutes left on the clock.
In the penalty shootout, Vasco Veterans’ Ananth Adkonkar saved off Gavin Araujo to mark a memorable win.
Vasco Veterans made a near clean sweep of the individual awards with Adkonkar being adjudged ‘best goalkeeper’, while Uday Naik took the ‘best striker’ prizes.
Organised by Youth of Fatrade, the tournament had attracted veterans teams from all across Goa.
