Cotarli locals complain to CS about illegal constructions on govt land

Accuses panchayat officials and revenue officers of receiving favours from the persons involved in the illegal acts

SANGUEM: Irked over the failure of the revenue authorities to initiate action against the persons involved in illegal constructions on government land at Cotarli-Sanguem, the locals led by Santano Rodrigues and Constancio Mascarenhas have filed a complaint before the Chief Secretary bringing to his notice the illegalities.

The locals also brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary the silent attitude of the government authorities in initiating the desired action against the persons involved in the act.

Santano and Constancio vide complaint dated September 2, 2020 brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary, the complaints lodged by them before the concerned government officials since 2018 including the Office of the Mamlatdar of Sanguem and the Director of Panchayats. 

The complainants in their letter also informed that except for site inspection into the matter by the Block Development Officer in the presence of Uguem sarpanch, nothing concrete has come out.

They mentioned the names of the persons along with the addresses who have undertaken the illegal constructions on the government land. They alleged that these persons continue to enjoy the land possession on account of their good relations with the panchayat officials and other revenue officers.

The complainants accused the panchayat officials and other revenue officers of having received favours from the persons involved in the illegal acts.

“It is unfortunate that the government authorities have failed to initiate action against the persons involved in the illegal constructions on government land. We have been complaining to the authorities since the time the constructions were in the initial stages. The constructions are now complete in all respects, yet the authorities continue to remain silent on the issue for reasons best known to them,” Rodrigues claimed.

The illegal constructions have been carried out on government owned land in Cotarli, claimed the complainants and alleged that these persons have fenced the area.
