CHORAO: The ferry access ramps at Chorao and Ribandar have not been cleaned in over two months, due to which they have become slippery, and hence, a threat to passengers.
Locals complained that passengers often slipped on the ramp and suffered injuries, besides soiling their clothes. They claimed that an old ramp near Chorao Island is so dangerous that ferries avoid dropping anchor there.
The ferry crew in-charge of this route said it the duty of the river navigation department to clean the ramps every month. On condition of anonymity, a crew member said, “The department has failed to clean the ramps for more than two months. We made several requests to the department, but to no avail. The commuters verbally abuse us if any incident occurs.”
