PORVORIM: The main accused in the Assagao murder case is suspected to have attacked a 12-year-old girl at Camurlim on Tuesday.

According to reports, about 200 residents from Camurlim marched to the Mapusa Police station on Tuesday evening and protested with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) against the failure of the police to nab the accused, Ranjit Tuenkar, who allegedly murdered a woman at Assagao on January 17.

The residents claimed that the accused has been moving freely in Camurlim. They further stated that on Tuesday morning, a 12-year-old girl from Camurlim was attacked by a man suspected to be Tuenkar.

As the accused is posing a threat to the residents of Camurlim, the villagers demanded the arrest of the accused within 24 hours, failing which they threatened to intensify their agitation. The villagers have also assured to assist police in nabbing the accused. The DySP agreed to start combing operations from Wednesday morning along with the villagers to nab the culprit.
