Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has urged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally meet students protesting alleged irregularities in the state’s recruitment examinations, saying their concerns are legitimate and their agitation has remained peaceful.
In a letter dated August 14, Gandhi highlighted the ongoing student protest in Ranchi, which had entered its 24th day on Monday. He appealed to Soren to engage directly with the protesting job aspirants and address their concerns.
A large number of candidates have been staging a sit-in in Ranchi, seeking an investigation into alleged irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination, the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and other recruitment tests.
Gandhi said the Congress supports the students’ right to raise their concerns through peaceful democratic means. He noted that the party has backed student protests against alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the education system in recent months.
According to Gandhi, peaceful protest is a fundamental constitutional right and an important pillar of India’s democratic system. He maintained that the students’ demands deserve to be heard and addressed through dialogue.
The appeal comes as the agitation over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations continues, with protesters pressing the state government for a transparent inquiry and action on their grievances.
