PANJIM: Congress’ frontal organisation, National Students Council of India, has extended support to South Goa candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco for the parliamentary elections but expressed discontent that Youth Congress party president Valanka Alemao was not nominated.
“We are accepting the candidate (Reginaldo) because it is a decision of the party high command and we will campaign for him. But we are unhappy that our youth leader was denied the ticket,” NSUI Goa Unit spokesman Milroy Antao told a press briefing. “We will convince our youth members to vote for Reginaldo in South.”
The NSUI leaders, however, refrained from commenting on Churchill Alemao’s resentment after the party parliamentary committee preferred Reginaldo over his daughter and sitting MP Francisco Sardinha for the South Goa ticket.
“It is for the party to decide the action against him. I can only say that Youth Congress and NSUI had pursued the matter with the Centre to give the ticket to Valanka,” Antao said.
