PWD eng Fatarpekar hangs himself to death

Second suicide after that of Water Resources Dept engineer Godbole

MARGAO: PWD Executive Engineer  Pravin Fatarpekar (54) committed suicide at his residence at Gogol-Margao on Saturday morning. The engineer ended his life by hanging in his room soon after his wife left for work.
The suicide of the executive engineer comes barely three months after a Water Resources Department engineer Kiran Godbole had committed suicide.
News of the executive engineer’s death triggered shock with Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai demanding an inquiry into the incident. He said the government should appoint a commission of inquiry to find out whether the executive engineer had died due to harassment by government agencies. “This is the second death of a engineer in the last three months. It is incumbent on the government to order a probe to find out the reason behind the circumstances that led Fatarpekar to take the drastic step. Otherwise, this case too will be forgotten like the Godbole case”, he said.
Expressing his shock, Margao legislator Digambar described Pravin Fatarekar as an efficient engineer who had worked closely towards the development of the city on the water supply front.
PWD Water Supply Assistant Engineer Vijai Kudchadkar said the police should conduct an inquiry to unearth the facts behind the suicide.
Margao Police Inspector Sudesh Naik said that the deceased was found hanging on the ceiling fan of his bedroom by their servant after his wife, who is a teacher in a city-based higher secondary school, left the house. “So far, we have not found any suicide note inside the house. His wife and a related doctor have also not suspected any foul play when we asked them whether they have any suspicion in the case. He used a nylon rope to commit the suicide”, he said.
