MAPUSA: Don Bosco Oratory ,Fatorda registered a 6-5 win via the tie-breaker over Holy Cross Sports Club Arambol to enter the quarter-final of the Vagator Soccer 2018 (UK Cup), organised by Vagator PYSC, at Vagator Ozran ground, on Monday.
In the 19th minute of play, a rasping shot by Jason Fernandes was blocked by Fatorda keeper Agnelo Fernandes with a diving save but the ball rolled to Kritikesh who tapped the ball into the goal.
Arambol almost doubled their lead when Stephelton Fernandes sent a pass to well positioned Vivek who shot a stiff grounder which was saved by Fatorda keeper Agnelo.
At the other end, Fatorda lost a glorious chance to level terms when a rasping shot from Ashley Araujo hit the upright.
After number of missed chances, in the 63rd minute, Fatorda’s as Francis Andrade found Clive Miranda inside the penalty box who scored with a neat placement to bring them on level terms.
In the tie-breaker, DBO Fatorda scored through Roque Broges, Valito Miranda, Cayven Araujo, Clive Miranda and Francis Andrade, while for Arambol colts Jason Fernandes, Shashank Asvekar, Myson Britto and Stephelton Fernandes scored.
Ashley Araujo received the man of the match award.
Meanwhile, Candolim Sports Club trounced Vagator PYSC by 3-1 margin to enter the quarter-finals, on Sunday.
It was Candolim that surged ahead in the very 8th minute off a defensive error, where Aniket Agarwadekar shot a power-packed right footer which hit the inner post of the goal before the ball entered the goal to give them the lead.
It did not take long for Candolim to increase their lead when Deu Sangelkar after getting hold of a pass from Viraj Malik scored from outside the penalty box to make it 2-0.
Candolim almost netted there third goal, but this time the Vagator keeper Lester Albuquerque saved a strike from Alrich D’Souza.
On crossing over, Vagator colts regrouped themselves and pulled a goal from a free-kick by Nyron D’Souza in the 40th minute of play to make it 2-1.
Five minutes later, Nyron D’Souza handled the ball inside the penalty box, prompting the referee to point to the dreaded spot, where Aniket Agarwadekar scored to make it 3-1.
