PANJIM: Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has served a notice on the Public Works Department (PWD) over garbage crisis in Harmal.
Commission member A D Salkar has taken cognisance of a media report that a ward in Harmal has been facing grave issue on the growing garbage menace. It had reported that villagers were anguished after huge stacks of unsegregated garbage were burnt by some miscreants. “The villagers are already troubled that garbage is dumped owing to lack of staff. This is lying in open surrounding creating a risk to the health of the people. One night miscreants burnt garbage heaps. The villagers are angry,” a villager said.
Taking cognisance of the media report the Commission issued notice on PWD Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer (Mapusa) seeking a detailed report by April 2.
