The Dy. CM’s tirade against the CM in matters of arbitrary transfer of bureaucrats without his consultation has to be taken with a pinch of salt and appears to be a politically incorrect statement and does not bode well with the impending elections, where the BJP does not stand a ghost of a chance in returning to power due to their umpteen U-turns on major Goa-centric issues.
The timing of his outbursts are out of sync as the party is on its wobbly legs going hammer and tongs on a destructive spree of decimating Goa’s eco-friendly fragile image. The Dy CM has not proved his mettle that he is a man of steel by stepping down then, when he was deprived of his legitimate right of succeeding as CM being next in line of hierarchy, consequent to the elevation of erstwhile CM Parrikar and present Raksha Mantri.
This politician wanted to accept whatever crumbs are offered by the presiding deity in Delhi and did not offer any resistance then and dutifully did service as an alter boy to the high priest as is also being done by the other Catholic MLAs of South Goa owing allegiance to the carom diplomacy of Parrikar at church squares.
These MLAs knew that they were grouted well for a full 5-year term and were at the beck and call of their master. Even Alina Saldanha another Catholic woman MLA who was elected on a sympathy wave on the demise of her husband who had joined the BJP to fight for protection of environment and special status did a U-turn in abstaining from joining the forces fighting for special status. Even when her portfolio was changed for ulterior motives she clung on to the party to save her chair at all cost.
The irony of politics is that the so-called like-minded secular parties which have mushroomed taking advantage of the misdoings of the nationalist parties having clout and pelf cannot cobble a formidable opposition to give a run for the money to both the BJP and Congress. The Congress has been written off as an outdated cheque as the same old tainted faces are staging a comeback without infusion of young new faces and the BJP which came to power on a promissory note has lost its trust with the populace.
