PONDA: On Friday, Returning officer for the election to Ponda Municipal Council (PMC), Johnson Fernandes, disposed the objections raised by two candidates towards acceptance of the nomination form of Venkatesh Naik.

Two candidates from Ward 4, Roy Naik and Gurunath Naik, on Friday filed objection to the candidature of Venkatesh claiming that he had encroachedon a property belonging to PMC.

Returning Officer Fernandes after hearing both the parties rejected the objections raised by the two candidates and accepted Venkatesh’s nomination.

In his reply to the returning officer, Venkatesh claimed that the order of the Administrative Tribunal on the basis of which PMC issued final orders on the encroachment case was challenged before the minister for urban development.

“There is a stay order on the order passed by the Administrative Tribunal which means the final order passed by PMC is also inoperative. The order of the minister is like a protective shield for Venkatesh,” stated the order of the returning officer.
