MARGAO: The Director for Science, Technology and Environment, Levinson Martins has confirmed that the Supreme Court Order related to the ban on Construction in States that have not framed the Solid Waste Management Policy, does not apply to Goa.
According to the statement released to the press, the state has filed their affidavit before the SC and complied with the SC Order. “The Solid Waste management Policy applicable in the State of Goa in in accordance with Solid Waste management rules 2016”, states Martins.
In terms of Rule 23 of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2015, Martins states that the Government of Goa through Department of Urban Development constituted the State Level Advisory Board (SLAB) which is notified on 22/3/2017. The state of Goa has also set up a unique dry waste/non recyclable waste collection mechanism from all the local bodies since 2014.
The State of Goa has also set up mechanism for collection of waste along Highways and major district roads and besides along the coast/beach stretch which is collected, transported and scientifically treated.
