PONDA: Curti-Khandepar residents have urged the authorities to address the safety risks posed by high tension (HT) lines along the Bethora-Borim bypass.
The locals expressed concerns that the HT lines are ‘almost touching’ the road due to land filling for four-lane widening work, posing a risk to commuters.

They demanded that the authorities take immediate action to either shift the HT lines to a safer height or lay them underground to mitigate the risks to commuters.
A resident, Sandeep Parkar, recounted a tragic incident in March when an Usgao youth, Pramod Naik, was electrocuted while answering nature’s call by the roadside due to the low-hanging HT lines.
Parkar highlighted that the land filling along the two-three km stretch for NH widening has brought the HT lines dangerously close to the road, with a mere metre of distance between the road and overhead wires.
This busy route sees frequent instances of commuters, particularly riders, getting off their vehicles to relieve themselves by the roadside, he said.
Despite the installation of concrete barricades by the authorities, Parkar emphasised the lack of proper signboards to alert commuters about the potential hazards. The residents stressed the urgent need for proper safety measures to prevent untoward incidents at the location.
