VASCO: The members of District Road Safety Council (DRSC), South Goa on Tuesday proposed erection of traffic signals at important junctions in Mormugao Taluka, including at Dabolim, MES College and St Andrews Junction in Vasco city.
Several suggestions to improve the traffic situation that was deteriorating by the day, besides other constructive recommendations were also made during the taluka-level meeting, which was attended by officials from different state government departments, members of DRSC and others at Janta Vachanalaya in Vasco on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Deputy Collector and SDM Mormugao Mahadev Arondekar said that the meeting was called to discuss the traffic problems faced by the commuters and pedestrians and to seek suggestion about the need for road-widening at various important places in Mormugao taluka, besides the need of zebra crossings, traffic signals etc.
Reacting on the suggestions by members, he said it has been proposed to shift the bus-stop located at Traffic Signal at Birla cross junction at Verna 100 meters ahead, as the bus-stop was creating hindrance to the smooth flow of traffic movement.
“We have also proposed to erect automated traffic signals at some important and busy junctions including at Dabolim junction, at MES College and at St Andrews Junction in Vasco city, besides we have also decided to increase the rumble strips at some junctions and to repaint faded zebra-crossings. All these proposals will be sent to the government for speedy implementation” he said.
