Goa Governor’s swearing-in today

PANJIM: Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Mohit Shah will administer the oath to Goa’s Governor-designate Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhavan on Sunday, four days after she was named to the constitutional post. She will succeed Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli, who presently holds additional charge of Goa.

Sinha arrived in Goa on Saturday afternoon, along with her husband, former Union Minister Dr Ram Kripal Sinha. They were received by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Protocol Minister Dilip Parulekar at Dabolim airport. 
Sinha, 72, a native of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is a former national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha, ex-chairperson of Central Board of Social Welfare and a renowned writer of Hindi literature. In her brief interaction with the media in New Delhi soon after being named Goa Governor, she said that she was excited to take up challenges. “I will advise Goa government wherever needed. My aim is to serve the people of Goa and ensure good governance in the State,” she said. 
Born to Anupa Devi and Baboo Chhabile Singh on November 27, 1942 she started her professional career, as a college lecturer in Muzaffarpur after completing BEd. Sinha also holds a postgraduate degree in psychology. She quit the job as a school principal in Motihari in Bihar and dedicated herself to Hindi literature.
Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli is presently officiating as Goa Governor. Immediately before him Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva was officiating as Goa Governor till August 5.
Bharat Vir Wanchoo had resigned on July 4, a day after he was quizzed by CBI as a witness in the AgustaWestland bribery scandal. A 1976-batch IPS officer and a former chief of elite Special Protection Group, Wanchoo’s resignation came a few days after former National Security Advisor M K Narayanan quit from Governorship of West Bengal.
Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli is presently officiating as Goa Governor. Immediately before him Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva was officiating as Goa Governor till August 5. Bharat Vir Wanchoo had resigned on July 4
