FATORDA: Manovikas English High School, Margao defeated Holy Rosary Convent High School, Nuvem 4-2 via tie breakers in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 football tournament, held at the Astro turf ground, Fatorda, on Thursday.
Holy Rosary scored first through Meislein Barreto before Manovikas equalised through Aldrick Gama in the second half. The first chance of the match fell to Manovikas’ Schuyler Furtado who received a pass from Joshua Barreto. Schuyler dribbled past Holy Cross defenders Laston Barreto and Ryan Borges and took a shot but the rival keeper saved it.
Mark B of Holy Rosary shot hit the rival side netting. Monovikas’ Manav Kamat shot was saved by Holy Rosary keeper Joel Miranda.
Bryson Colaco fed a pass to Mark B but the latter could not take aim as the Manovikas defender Darin Fernandes blocked his effort.
In the eighth minute, Meislein Barreto opened the account for Holy Rosary .
In the second half, Aldrick Gama managed to level terms in the 42nd minute. The game was tied 1-1 in the full time.
In the tie-breakers, Manovikas scored through Shring Masur, Aldrick Gama and Manav Kamat. As for Rosary, Laston Barreto was the only scorer from the spot.
In another match, Rosary Higher Secondary School gained a walkover as their opponents King’s High School, Margao failed to report at the ground.
In another match, Holy Spirit Institute Margao blanked Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna. At half time the score was 2-0.
In the very 6th minute Adithya Salgaokar opened the score for Holy Spirit off an assist by Saideep Pombuphekar. They doubled their lead ten minutes later through Richard Carvalho who scored off an assist by Saideep.
Crossing over Regina Martyrum found it hard to get into the rhythm of Holy Spirit team who enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession. Vellington Fernandes and Harsh Patre added their name to the score sheet in the 46th and 51st minute to guide Holy Spirit to an impressive 4-0 win over the Assolna side. Holy Spirit continued to enjoy superiority till the end of the proceedings.
