PONDA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda grounded Friends XI, Vaddem 4-1 in the final of the St Anne Festival Cup all-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Ponda Footballers in association with SAG and Quadros Motors, at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti, here, recently. The score was 2-1 at half time.
Francis Andrade (2), Ansulam Furtado and Clencio Pinto scored one goal each for Fatorda while Amar Kinlekar reduced the margin for Vaddem.
In the 12th minute, Francis chipped the ball over a defender towards Hanslum, who shot past the onrushing custodian for the opener.
However, Vaddem equalized when Daniel sent in a through ball to Amar Kinlekar to make it 1-1.
Just before the lemon break, Fatorda scored the second goal after Francis dribbled past three players and unleashed a scorching shot.
After the break, Vaddem went all out for the equalizer but Suraj’s effort was fisted away by the Fatorda keeper.
With only two defenders playing for Vaddem, Hanslum took advantage of the situation and set up Francis, who placed the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 3-1.
Soon, they increased the lead when Francis gave a through ball to Clencio and the latter finished with a deft placement.
Earlier, in an exhibition match, GFDC Marcel defeated GFDC Kandepar 1-0. Managing partner of Civilco Engineers Gous Mohamed gave the trophy and cash prize.
The following prizes were awarded to first scorer of the final Hanslum Furtado of Fatorda, best goalkeeper of the tournament Suraj Ghadi and player of the final Francis Andrade of Fatorda.
Gouns Mohamed gave away the runner-up trophy and cash prize to Friends XI, Vaddem while Evencio Quadros gave away the winners trophy and cash prize to Fatorda. Earlier, Evencio awarded a scholarship to the upcoming footballer of Ponda Jennifer Clement who has signed for Churchill Bros SC this year. He was given a certificate and cash of Rs 5,000.
Also present were parish priest of St Anne church Fr Tony D’Souza, social worker Rajesh Verenkar, businessman Stylex Bernard, Nevio Pires, Sylvester Fernandes and Santan Perreira.
