CAVELOSSIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda emerged champions when they came back from a goal down to beat Cuncolim Union 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the finals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at Fr. Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
In a fast-paced encounter, Cuncolim Union had the upper hand in the first half with Daulat Dessai and Tushar Gaunker probing the Fatorda defence time and again and Clifton Fernandes made a good move from the left flank and gave me a measured pass to Trijoy Dias whose try from the box was wide off the target.

However, Cuncolim Union were not to be denied a goal, when in the 20th minute Mevzen Oliveira dispossessed Maxwell Furtado in their half line and fired a bullet shot which was blocked by keeper Karol Soares and rebounded back to Mevzen Oliveira who made no mistake to put Cuncolim 1-0 goal up .
Crossing over, DBO Fatorda mounted pressure on Cuncolim Union defenders with Valiston D’Souza getting the better of Melvin Fernandes in the deep defence right on the goal line and gave a square pass to Clancio Pinto whose power- packed shot gave no chance to Hrishikesh Gaunker in the Cuncolim goal to draw the match 1-1 during regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Maxwell, Charles, Clancio, Veliston and Velton made no mistake with their spot kicks for DBO Fatorda. Keeper Karol Soares turned out to be the hero-of-the-match when he blocked Trijoy Dias’ spot kick.
DBO Fatorda were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 and a trophy while Cuncolim Union bagged Rs. 40,000 and a trophy
Young Strikers Club of Benaulim won a special prize of Rs. 10,000.
Earlier the chairman of the organizing committee Viano Rodrigues welcomed the chief guest Fr Ubaldo Fernandes, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Cavelossim, Dixon Vaz, Sarpanch and Dy. Sarpanch Renku Lobo, Panch Delfina Luis, Franky Fernandes, Head of Referees in Goa.
