DODAMARG/MAPUSA: The Dodamarg Police arrested a Goa Electricity Department staffer and his accomplice for allegedly killing his 38-year-old wife Vishita Naik at Bhatwadi-Dodamarg, Maharashtra.
The police gave the names of the accused as Vinod Naik, a resident of Vasco and presently staying at Mapusa, and Ruturaj Ingawale, a native of Chandgad-Kolhapur and currently residing at Moira.
Police said that Naik on the pretext of an outing took Vishita to Bhatwadi, near Tillari-Dodamarg, where he allegedly strangulated her to death. He then with the help of his accomplice allegedly smashed her head with a stone and fled.
The police recovered Vishita’s body in a nullah at Bhatwadi on Tuesday and suspected the involvement of the deceased’s husband as he was reported missing since Monday night.
Though the exact reason for committing the murder is not yet known, DySP Rohini Salunke said that there used to be fights between the Naik couple and it appears to be the prime reason behind the murder. Both the accused have confessed to the crime, she said adding that the police cracked the case within eight hours after recovering the body.
The police have sent the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination while a murder case has been registered against both the accused.
