PANJIM: Even as the Save Old Goa Satyagraha entered day 8 and protestors demanded the demolition of the illegal construction in the Old Goa heritage site, government is yet to take concrete steps, say protestors. On Wednesday several Goans from all across the state joined the hunger strike demanding action against the illegal structure at Old Goa.
Ana Gracias of Chimbel, who is on a hunger protest said, “We have received lot of support from the people. The stop-work notice is like a chocolate given to crying kid. We do not understand why they (govt) are delaying (the demolition). If they can form government in one night and demolish kiosks at Bambolim in one night, why can’t they demolish the bungalow? We are sitting here to demolish the bungalow. This is an illegal structure,” she said.
Clarice Vaz, a visual storyteller said, “If the farmers won, we too can win taking to the streets”.
Orville Dourado Rodrigues from Cansaulim leading the village movement against double tracking of the railways showed solidarity to the cause and said “Nothing has come easy for us. We now need to catch the bull by its horns. We have to rise as one.”
Meanwhile, Jeorge Fernandes from South Goa left everyone with a lot to ponder when he said, “Don’t waste time-fighting with the present government. Instead spend more time to educate younger generations about politics and governance.”
