Herald had exposed how Joshi, a bank clerk, was appointed as Commissioner of the State Disabilities Commission on June 17, 2015 without following proper procedure. While her appointment was cleared by former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the Social Welfare Secretary had raised objections.
“The appointment is a major fraud. I urge the State government to file a criminal case against Joshi and officials of Social Welfare Department for such illegal appointment,” Naik said. “We want government to register an FIR against those involved in the forgery,” he added.
Naik said he would seek details of the appointment through Right to Information Act, as he is legally examining the issue. According to Joshi’s bio-data she has worked as Research Assistant in TERI from 2000 to 2009 and as a clerk in Bank of India for 22 years.
Under the appointment rules, the Commissioner should be a person who has special knowledge or practical experience in respect of matters relating to rehabilitation.
Naik also opposed the satellite port project for Mormugao, for which the Centre is seeking 75 acres of land from the State. He said this will be another white elephant which would displace locals without any benefit to the State.
