VASCO, MARCH 23
A 28-year-old labourer from Chicalim was injured, after he was shot at by unknown persons behind the SMRC hospital at Chicalim on Monday evening.
According to Vasco police, the incident occurred when Kariyappa Madar was returning home from his duty at a construction site. When Madar reached near the SMRC Hospital, some people fired at him from the back.
“After shooting Madar, the accused took his purse, which contained about Rs 2,050 and left him abandoned,” said police.
It is learnt that after the incident, the victim laid at the site for nearly three hours. However, when his anxious family members were proceeding to inquire at the construction site, they saw Madar lying behind SMRC Hospital.
Madar was shifted to the hospital after nearly four hours and subsequently police complaint was lodged.
Police claimed that it appears to be a case of robbery, as some people with a country-made weapon, known as Katta, had shot Madar from the back.
“Doctors have removed pellets from his abdomen and he is out of danger now,” said police.
Vasco police has registered an offence under Sections 394, 3 r/w 25 (1B), (a) 27 of Arms Act and PSI John Fernandes is investigation the case.
