Nagoa decides to seek for expert opinion on draft Jetty Policy

The panchayat also resolved to take serious note of the groundwater and will keep a vigil on the activities of the people involved in selling the groundwater.

MARGAO: The Nagoa Village Panchayat on Sunday resolved to put in place the garbage management at the panchayat level before taking stand against the proposed waste treatment plant at Verna and also decided to ask for expert opinion on the draft Jetty Policy 2022.

Social activists and villager of Nagao John Philip Pereira raised the issue pertaining to proposed waste treatment plant at Verna and Jetty Policy 2022, as he urged the panchayat body to take resolution opposing both the projects. 

However, later it was decided to ask for an expert opinion on the jetty policy before taking a resolution to oppose it. 

The panchayat body is of the opinion that they should first understand the policy before raising their objections and should be aware of the ill effects and benefits of the policy. 

On the demand pertaining to the proposed waste treatment plant at Verna plateau, the panchayat body stated that they should first put in place garbage management at the panchayat level.

It is pertinent to note that at the previous gram sabha meeting, members had resolved to oppose the proposed garbage treatment plant at Verna, citing that it will affect the village and the water bodies very badly. 

The panchayat has resolved to take serious note of the groundwater and will keep a vigil on the activities of the people involved in selling the groundwater.
