MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has decided to impose hefty fines on those dumping garbage on the roadside, and also act against people throwing litter from their vehicles. Fines of Rs 10,000 and above will be imposed on those carrying garbage in vehicles and dumping it on the roadside or in open spaces, said Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson, MMC.

“It has been also observed that even people who travel by cars chuck their garbage out of their windows, while travelling. The MMC has decided to impose fines upto Rs 20,000 for four-wheelers and Rs 10,000 for those dumping garbage using two-wheelers,” said the Chairperson.
