PANJIM: Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado has asked the ACB to complete its investigation into the CCP handcarts issue within a fortnight or he would send the matter to the Lokayukta along with the names of the officers who could have delayed the investigation.
In a letter to the department, Furtado states, “I therefore request you to personally instruct the concerned officer in your Directorate to complete this investigation within a fortnight and send the report to us accordingly. I may mention here that as decided in the meeting of the Corporation, if the Investigation Report by your department is not received within a fortnight I would be compelled to refer the matter to the Lokayukta as decided in the meeting of the Corporation along with the names of the officers who have delayed the investigations in this matter.
Stating that this matter was referred to the directorate as far back as 2006 for a Vigilance Inquiry for alleged tempering of original list of the handcarts licences, the CCP argued that the matter was pending for the last seven years.
Saying that this matter has again cropped up in the recent meeting of this Corporation held on 30th August 2013, “where this matter was deliberated at length by the Corporators and it was decided to get completed the Vigilance Inquiry from your Department within a stipulated time limit, failing which the same may be referred to the Lokayukta constituted by the Government of Goa recently.”
