MARGAO: Terming the draft Goa Khazan Land Development Board Act 2012 as “devastation act”, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai said the draft bill as nothing but the foundation stone of a land scam to wipe off Goa’s khazan lands.
He accused the government for drafting the bill at the behest of the land mafia and is just another episode in the “purti inspired” series of keeping the RP 2021 in cold storage; re-opening of ODPs and now the Khazan land development. “This seems to be a larger land to the land sharks program at the cost of local comunidade and the Goan ethos”, he told the media on Saturday.
Saying that it was obvious that one of the main purposes of the Bill was to set up a body that could acquire, hold and sell khazan lands, Sardessai demanded to now why land is required to be acquired to stop illegal breaching of bundhs when it needs proper implementation to save our khazan lands for future generations.
“Khazan lands are the last bastion of the comunidades and the gaunkari systems. There is no need for a new authority to protect these lands, unless there is a hidden agenda.
“The purti party seems to be doing what they are experts at ~ demolishing age-old people’s institutions like the gaunkari system and creating new ones to do the party bidding. In this case, the party bidding seems to be development of khazan lands. In other words, sell khazan lands to private parties and promote non-agricultural development in the khazans”, he said, while saying that the Goa Khazan Land Development Board Act also plans to override important provisions of the Land Acquisition Act and the CRZ regulations.
