VASCO: The workers union of Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL) has threatened to disrupt all the BJP election campaign meetings, if their five months pending salary is not released by WISL management as assured by Power Minister Milind Naik.
Speaking to reporters after the end of a protest rally at Headland Sada in Mormugao on Thursday over pending salary issue, union leader Alexander Pacheco said, “Earlier when we were holding series of protest for nonpayment of salaries, Power Minister Milind Naik came to our rescue and assured us that he would look into the matter and would ensure that the WISL management anyhow clears our pending salary.”
“On his assurance, we all accepted four month salary with the belief that the pending five months salary would be released to us by October 10, as assured by Naik. However, till date our pending salaries have not been paid to us and thus we have now decided to give 15 days’ time to the government to put pressure on the WISL management to pay our pending salaries, failing which we all would go against BJP and would disrupt all their election campaign meetings and would also work against BJP in the forthcoming assembly polls,” Pacheco threatened.
As per Pacheco, on Saturday (November 12), the WISL workers have also called for a public meeting at Headland Sada to disscuss the issue of pending salary.
Secretary of WISL workers union, Seby Pereira said, “We were compelled to come out on streets again due to five months pending salary and to grab the attention of the government, so that they take up our issue and resolve the same. We feel that BJP again made a U-turn on the issue as they failed to fulfill its assurance till date.”
