MARGAO: Villagers of Verna, Nagoa and other villages on Sunday demanded a halt of all trains running on the Konkan Railway route at the Verna Railway Station.
Led by Nuvem MLA, Mickky Pacheco, the villagers submitted a memorandum to the station master demanding a halt of all trains at Verna, saying it would benefit the people of not just Verna, Nagoa, Majorda, Velsao, Cortalim and Cansaulim, but the entire population of Mormugao taluka.
Mickky pointed out that even a two-minute halt of long distance trains, including Mangala Express, Janshatabdi, Netravati Express, besides the Margao-Mumbai Konkan Kanya Express will go a long way in ameliorating the hardships faced by the villagers of Mormugao taluka.
When asked whether any deadline has been served on the Konkan Railway authorities to fulfil the demands of the villagers, the Nuvem MLA said he hoped the railway authorities will understand the genuine demands of the people of these villages.
“A halt of all trains at the Verna railway station will not only help the rail commuters from Mormugao taluka, but will usher in the development. In the absence of the train halt, commuters from these villages are forced to travel all the way to the Margao Railway Station to board the trains”, he added.
